The ZYPPAH Review: Two Mouthpieces In One
|Type:||Hybrid double action mouthpiece|
|Money back:||Yes, 90 days|
|BBB accredited:||Not Listed|
As-soon-as you see the BPA-free hypo-allergenic ZYPPAH (Pronounced Zee-Pah) you know something’s different and it isn’t simply because it looks great, flashing its sporty green and black color scheme, but it’s also because it sets itself apart from other mouthpieces by working to tackle your snoring problems through a unique double action approach which delivers an effective combination of two technologies via one knockout device.
Relatively new to the market – arriving in June 2012 – this hybrid mouthpiece doesn’t hang around waiting for your snoring problem to be resolved, instead it jumps right into the mix by combining both jaw adjustment and tongue stabilization know-how in order to give you a real chance of leaving your noise laden nights in the past.
Not only does it bring a double action solution for a single price it really does look great. So it shouldn’t really come as any surprise that this MAD comes in at a strong third in my overall ratings of quality options to deliver quieter sleep.
And although my all time personal favorite solution is the GMSS – with my second overall favorite being the VitalSleep – the ZYPPAH is an answer I know can confidently reach for to solve my snoring problems.
How It Works
Firstly it opens up the airways by pushing and holding the lower jaw in a forward position – this tightens loose tissue around the neck and jaw that can begin to vibrate when sleeping and thus result in snoring.
Secondly, via a strong elastic band – placed towards the back of the device – your tongue is held firmly but gently in place, thus preventing it from falling back into your throat, an issue that any long-suffering snorer can identify as a primary cause of the noise.
So now that we know that positioning the jaw forwards and holding the tongue in place are proven methods of tackling disturbed sleep it’s easy to see how this hybrid mouthpiece delivers on both fronts.
It’s a huge advantage, and a real step forward in the evolution of mouthpieces, it really is quite unique with no other product on the market as yet offering this double action solution.
Plus, not only do you have the comfort of knowing that it’s working double hard for you, breathing is ensured via a large hole placed at the front of the device.
All said and told there’s nothing that the manufacturer hasn’t thought of to provide as comfortable a sleep as possible for the snorers amongst us.
As is common amongst mandibular advancement devices – or MADs – the ZYPPAH features a simple process known as the boil-and-bite method.
This process helps tailor fit the device for each distinctive user and shouldn’t be seen as either a difficult or technically demanding procedure.
Custom fitting is relatively easy and in terms of getting it ready for the “bite down” it only requires that you drop the device into hot water for the stated amount of time.
Once it has suitably softened remove the piece and allow it to cool to a comfortable temperature prior to inserting it into your mouth.
Once inserted, bite down and hold your bite to form an impression. As the material cools, it retains its shape, fitting around your teeth to secure a custom fit for your mouth.
You have the chance to remold the device up to three times if your fit changes or if you feel that you didn’t get the first fitting just right.
There is one difference that newcomers need to be aware of.
If you’ve used MAD’s before then you’ll know that most are manufactured with a recessed tray that can help guide your teeth into the correct position while fitting but the ZYPPAH has done away with that approach and instead relies on a visual alignment.
Absent of guiding trays the wearer uses a mirror to ensure that their upper and lower teeth are placed in the correct position before biting down.
Although in no way a deal breaker for this snorer do please be sure to read thoroughly the precise steps provided in the instruction manual to ensure that the initial fitting is completed correctly.
It’s not in any way a more complicated process than with other mouthpieces, it’s just different, and as with anything new it’s probably best to know how to do it!
With a market price set between the cheaper and more expensive products a single ZYPPAH will – with a one time payment – cost you a total of $89.95, which includes shipping and handling. The product comes with a 90-day warranty.
Your order automatically includes a 90-day, one-time replacement warranty in which your mouthpiece will be replaced for any reason free of charge. You have the option of receiving a refund for the amount of the product or obtaining a free replacement.
To allow for processing the company asks that you please allow 2-7 days for a credit to appear on your credit card statement.
But if you do want to return it, make sure that you give them a call and get a Return Merchandise Authorization number before you send it back. The RMA number must be clearly written on the package for the return program to be valid. You can get your RMA number by calling the free customer service line at 800-875-3370.

Its hybrid solution really aims to create as highly effective treatment as possible to eliminate snoring for more people.
Relatively small and light it’s doesn’t have as bulky a presence as some other mouthpieces on the market, this reduces its impact on your mouth and associated muscles such as those in the neck.
Manufactured in the United States using high-end materials.
There is a 90-day money back guarantee.
Although not guaranteed with any specific life span the unit should last a year with proper care and use.
Unfortunately, as of yet, this mouthpiece does not offer any kind of adjustment for its jaw advancement feature. This feature can, however, be found in other devices – notably the VitalSleep and SnoreRx.
Although jaw adjustment capabilities are not yet an industry wide standard this technology has received very positive feedback from users, and its absence takes away from the ZYPPAH’s effectiveness to further reduce jaw, teeth and muscle aches and pains common to MADs.
As with all new mouthpieces some users will experience mild to moderate tenderness and pain in the mouth, teeth and jaw as the device beds in. This temporary discomfort can last from anywhere between a day to upwards of a week.
Fitting is somewhat more dependent on the user than that of other mouthpieces, with no trays to help guide your teeth into place, but rather than being more difficult, it’s just a different way to fit your mouthpiece.
Sadly for those of us who wear any kind of oral prosthetic, such as dentures, this MAD is not going to help. But don’t despair because there is help at hand because the GMSS can act as a really great answer to your snoring problems if you wear oral prosthetics.
The ZYPPAH’s quality and effectiveness come to the fore in its determination to outperform other anti-snoring mouthpieces by offering the hybrid solution.
This double-pronged approach to reducing – or even cancel out your snoring – really is nothing short of passionate determination; it seems to me that the manufacturers of this device really do want to deliver peaceful, undisturbed rest to those of us who suffer from noisy sleep, be that the snorer themselves or those around them.
With its small size and fine quality build, this double action solution for a single price sees this mouthpiece sit just behind the GMSS and VitalSleep as the answer I reach for when I need to solve my snoring problems.
If it were priced more competitively – with a degree of adjustability built in – then I could even see it challenging my all-time favorite MAD – and second-placed overall solution to sleepless nights -, the VitalSleep, but for now a third placed bronze medal is a fair award in my opinion.
Please note: It is of the utmost importance to be aware of how necessary it is to talk with your registered physician about your snoring problems, you could be suffering from a much more serious condition: Sleep Apnea.
Sleep apnea can lead to life-threatening events such as strokes or high blood pressure. Remember only your registered healthcare giver is qualified to assist you in choosing which anti-snoring solution will best address your specific individual needs, so please do seek their advice.
