Anti-Snoring Nasal Products
Nasal products that aim to stop snoring vary a lot. You’ve probably seen sprays, nose strips, nostril cones, nose clips, and other things too. This variety of nasal products has something in common. They can only help one kind of snoring.
As you have probably guessed by now, all of these products are made to help those that snore because of their nose. There are a couple problems with that though.
Problems with Nasal Products
First of all, a lot of people that snore because of their nose also have other reasons for snoring. In cases like that these products can help a bit but they won’t stop the snoring completely.
The other reason that someone’s nose causes them to snore is because of allergies, sinus problems, or something like a cold. These are pretty much just things that make you stuffy. If being stuffy is causing you to snore then products like these aren’t going to help you very much. They can even make your breathing more difficult if that is the case.
Let’s get into some specifics. I’m sure you would like to know a few facts about nasal products.
Nasal Strips and Cones
I’ll start with nasal strips since I’m sure you’ve seen these before. These things are everywhere! Most of the time they are even advertised as a wonder product. I’m not knocking them.
They can be effective for the right person. What I’m saying is that this kind of product is usually exaggerated as far as how well it works and what it actually does for you.
The only thing that these little springy adhesive strips do is keep your nostrils open. Most of the other nasal products on the market focus on the same problem.
That’s alright if your nose and your nose only is the cause of your snoring. If you have other things making you snore in addition to your nose then these solutions may still help but they will not keep you from snoring completely.
Things to Think About
If you are thinking about trying any nasal product as your solution there are a few things to consider. Is just your nose to blame or do you have multiple reasons that you snore? If you read my article on how to stop snoring you should have a pretty good idea.
Next, how oily is your skin? Since these strips rely on sticking to your nose to keep it open, oily skin can be a problem. If you have oily skin it could be very difficult to keep them on for even a short period of time. If the product comes off I can guarantee you it won’t be much help.
If your skin is oily and you need something to keep your nose open you may want to look into nasal cones. They do the same thing that strips do but they don’t have to stick to anything to work. Some of these do well for nose snorers. They are usually made of a soft plastic material and have some kind of fitting that slips over the tip of your nose.
However, if your skin isn’t very oily and your nose is the main reason that you snore then nose strips can be a good option for you. Consider yourself lucky if you fit that description. Most people can’t get away with using something so simple and cheap.
How Sensitive Is Your Nose?
One other thing to consider before running out and buying anything is how sensitive your skin is. Sometimes the adhesive on certain devices can cause skin irritation or leave a residue on your nose. For some people that have sensitive skin this can lead to break outs or acne on your nose right where the product was.
I’ve focused mostly on nasal strips since they are the most popular in this category. Other nasal devices generally work the same way and just have more things that can go wrong. For example, I really wouldn’t want to be the guy that buys nasal cones only to find out that they don’t fit my nose or I swallowed them in the middle of the night.
As I mentioned though, even nostril cones can work for the right person. It’s up to you to decide if a nasal device is right for you. There is probably a better solution for you; this array of products is just one option.
